Our Historic Premises
The Gledden Building provides a fitting home for a company that continually rededicates itself to the creation of fine jewellery. Solid Gold occupies three levels in the historic Gledden Building on the corner of William and the Hay Street Mall in Perth.
Designed by Architect Harold Boas and built in 1938 this magnificent art deco building was once the tallest building in the City and the tower on its roof was lit up at night with a red beacon to guide planes coming in to land on The Esplanade. It was a bequest to the University of WA by the mining surveyor, property entrepreneur and philanthropist Robert Gledden and it contains many innovative features including a light well through its centre.
The building had been vacant for many years and fallen into a state of disrepair before Solid Gold initiated its renovation. With the assistance of the Heritage Council of Western Australia, the Gledden Building has now been restored to its former glory.
Solid Gold occupies three levels in the Gledden Building:
- Level One: Retail Showroom
- Level Two: Studio Workshop
- Level Three: Administration
The effort we made in renovating this iconic property reflects the respect we have for the work of past craftsmen as we strive to master the advantages provided by today’s technologies.
